Canine Sports Massage Workshop - Virginia
Muscles that are tight, constricted, sore, overworked, underworked, and/or loaded with myofascial trigger points cannot be strengthened through exercise until the underlying issues within the tissues are addressed. This is where sports massage comes in -- it is a foundational element of any fitness program.
Sports massage focuses on enhancing circulation, increasing tissue elasticity, and reducing muscle tension. It helps prepare muscle for activity and helps muscles recover afterwards by relieving tightness and soreness. Muscle tightness can limit flexibility, increase pain, and cause future injuries.
Sports massage can take place before an athletic event or vigorous activity (pre-event massage), after an event or activity (post-event massage), and in between events or activities (maintenance massage).
More details about sports massage, as well as the techniques and the most effective ways to apply them, will be covered in this 1-day hands-on workshop.
Participants will be provided with volunteer demo dogs for hands-on practice during this class. Please leave your own pets relaxing at home. Thank you!
This workshop is appropriate for pet parents and canine professionals alike.

Hands-On Techniques
You will learn the differences between pre-event, post-event, and maintenance sports massage and the optimal timing for each. You will also observe and practice the appropriate bodywork techniques for each type of sports massage, and understand how to determine which techniques to use when.
